1. Xi'an's population: The city's permanent population reached 10.2035 millions at the end 2019. This is a net increase by 199.800 compared with the end 2018. The male population was 5.2146 millions, or 51.1%, while the female population was 4,9889 million (48.9%), and the gender proportion was 104.5. The total number of births in the past year was 124 500, with an annual birth rate of 12.32%0. The total number of deaths, 55,900 with a mortality of 5.533%0, and the rate of natural growth was 6.79%0. Urban population 7.6128 millions, which is 74.61% (urbanization rate for permanent residents). Rural population 2.5907,000,000, or 25.39%.
2. Xi'an's administrative divisions: There were 12 districts in the early liberation days, with 8 urban areas and four suburban areas. In the early days of liberation, there was no street administration system in the city. There were also 19 townships located in the suburbs. In 1954 the administrative divisions of China were adjusted. Twelve districts and some newly-added towns were merged into nine districts. These districts were Xincheng District (formerly Beilin District), Lianhu District (formerly Changle District), Yanta District (formerly Afang District), Weiyang District and Caotan District. District, Baqiao District. Changle and Weiyang were abolished in April 1957 and the number municipal districts was reduced from seven to seven. In November 1958, Chang'an County, Lantian County, Lintong County, and Hu county were merged under Xi'an City. The organizational structures of Lianhu Beilin and Xincheng ceased to exist in 1960. Lantian, Lintong, and Hu County were divided in August 1961. In 1962 the organization of Xincheng District, Beilin District, and Lianhu District was restored. In 1965 the Baqiao District, Yanta District, Afang and Weiyang district were abolished. The jurisdictions of these districts were merged to form one suburb and the number municipal districts reduced to four. Yanliang Town, in Lintong County, was placed under Xi'an City, and was established as Yanliang District. Xianyang City, a county-level city, was also placed under Xi'an City. In November 1966, Xincheng District, Beilin District, Lianhu District, and Yanliang District were renamed Dongfeng District, Xiangyang District, Hongwei District, and Donghong District. Their original names were restored to them in 1972. Xianyang City, which was approved by the State Council in November 1971, was delimited. In March 1980 the suburbs were removed from Xi'an and the organization systems of Baqiao Weiyang, and Yanta Districts were restored. With the approval of State Council in October 1983, Lantian, Lintong, and Hu counties in Weinan, and Zhouzhi and Gaoling counties in Xianyang (Hu County became Hu County in September 1964, and Yuxi County became Zhouzhi) were added. Xi'an City is responsible for 7 districts (Xincheng), Beilin, Lianhu and Baqiao in Weiyang and Yanta and Yanliang in Yanliang. It also has 6 counties (Chang'an, Lantian and Lintong) and Zhouzhi and Huxian. Lintong County and Lintong District were established in August 1997 with the approval of State Council. Chang'an County and Chang'an District were abolished on June 2, 2002 with the approval of State Council.
